STUDY FIELD OF THE DEPARTMENT
The study content of the department of Optics and Optometry cover the
knowledge of dispensing of corrective prescriptions, i.e. the
placement and application of ocular lenses in frames of eyeglasses,
the reception of essential measurements for the specific
prescription and dispensing of lenses, the reception of measurements,
the order as well as the dispensing of various types of contact
lenses and the aftercare and optometric control of the dispensed
lenses. The department of Optics and Optometry has as mission it
promotes the growth and the transmission of knowledge in the
technology and the science with the teaching and the applied
research and he provides in the students the essential supplies that
ensure their even training for their scientific and professional
career and development.
According framework the Department of Optics and Optometry:
A) Observes the European and international developments in the
academic and educational sector.
B) Collaborates with the productive units and the institutions that
are related with his cognitive area.
C) Uses the modern technologies in education and in Long Life
education.
D) Carries out Technological Research.
E) Develops to students skills that will render them capable and
competitive in national and international level.
Z) Is well prepared in order to be receptive in changes according to
altered educational, economic and social conditions in local,
national and international environment but also in changes that
impose the transformation and the development of profession in the
wider area.
H) Is well prepared for the next qualitative framework and
improvement in studies level.
F) Is well prepared to organise postgraduate courses in cooperation
with universities of interior or abroad.
G) Collaborates with private and public institutions (Municipalities,
Prefectures etc) but also with interventionist institutions (Doctors
without borders, Unions of Blind and people with vision problems)
for offering service to suffering individuals or social teams.
With the completion of their study the graduates of the Department
acquire the essential scientific and technological knowledge and
skills, as Opticians-optometrists, in order to be occupied in all
areas of given Knowledge, or as self-employing, or as persons in
charge or executives of relative enterprises and industries,
institutions and social services.
More specifically, the Optician -Optometrist:
• Applies modern scientific and technological methods, as well
as practices in the fitting and placement corrective or protective
lenses, application and optometric confirmation of contact lenses
prescription as in the distribution and marketing of sunglasses and
other vision aids.
• Applies modern laboratorial techniques in the foundation and
operation of optical shop, laboratory of prescription dispensing and
of contact lenses fitting.
• Observes the social and legal obligations of the optical
enterprises against the customers, oculists and sanitary local or
national institutions.
• Deals with the research, the growth and the innovation in each
sector of Optics, Optometry and contact lens fitting and vision
aids.
• Has the knowledge for development of relative studies and
planning of optical industry products.
• Possesses the faculty˘s collective and common work, in the
framework of Optics and other applications as well, like other
sectors, as organisation and management of departments and branches
of import and distribution of Optical Goods enterprises.
Also he participates:
* In planning and organisation of laboratorial places.
* In the choice of equipment (instruments, working systems, appliances)
while supervises the equitable regular maintenance of
instruments according to the rules of safety that are forecasted.
* In the choice of modern and suitable methods and processes of
production and presentation of products and services.
* In the qualitative control and the observation of medical history
archives.
* In work and studies taking place in the working labs
Finally may be occupied in the education according the local effect
legislation.
