COURSE TITLE: Structural Art: lightweight flexible constructions
COURSE ID N1-6050
COURSE TYPE Composite
COURSE CATEGORY Elective
HOURS PER WEEK 2 Theory + 4 Workshop
ECTS 6
TYPICAL SEMESTER 6th

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
This subject deals with the teaching of the design principles of variability, flexibility and sustainability in the field of lightweight flexible constructions in architectural design. The acquisition by the students of knowledge and skills in relation to interior and outdoor lightweight flexible constructions is the objective of the course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The development of modern trends in the design of light flexible multifunctional constructions, which are mainly associated to the meeting of the demands of post-industrial cities urban furniture and light flexible shelters, and characterized by the use of sustainable, high-tech materials and design methods and by original forms.
In this context, instruction is focusing to the principles of variability, flexibility and sustainability in architectural design, mainly through a systematic presentation and analysis of several examples of the relevant international experience.
In the context of theoretical instruction, the following topics are developed: Flexible design: forms, movements, materials and mechanisms. Flexible buildings: methods and materials. Examples of innovative design. Guggenheim design competition. Kiosks
o Consequently, the subject of laboratory projects is mainly about how to design variable (multifunctional), flexible and sustainable light urban furniture (stands, kiosks etc) and light flexible shelters.
