Postgraduate studies
The Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art is organising postgraduate programme on «Conservation of Cultural Heritage». Starting date: February 2018. More information on the programme will be posted on the master's website in September 2017.

The Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art participates in an interdisciplinary postgraduate Programme on Museum Studies, in collaboration with the Faculty of History & Archaeology and the Faculty of Geology of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, on the basis of the Ministerial Decree OGG 823/Ā/25-06-03. Administration of the Programme belongs to the Faculty of History & Archaeology.

The aims of the Programme are:

  • To contribute to the development of museum institutions and professions by establishing Museum Studies as a discipline and by training professional who will be able to meet the requirements and confront the diverse and multidimensional issues of Greek museums.
  • To promote interdisciplinary collaboration and mutual understanding of all fields involved in the establishment and good operation of museums.
  • To promote research and communicate academic knowledge in the field of Museum Studies.
  • To contribute to the enhancement of the educational and social role of museums, as institutions serving society and its development, open to the public, and aiming at education, research and recreation.

Subjects treated in the Programme are collection of educational museum material, organization of museums and exhibitions, museum management, monitoring of environmental parameters in museums, protection and restoration of museum material, museum legislation, financial management of museums and museum collections, the museum as a place of culture and education, museum and society.

The Programme is completed in four semesters (three semesters of courses and one semester for the preparation of the dissertation) and leads to a Master¢s Degree.
