He studied in the University College of
Cardiff in U. K., from where he received the degree of B.Sc. (Hon.) in
Electrical - Electronic Engineering in 1979 and the degree of M.Sc. in
Electrical - Electromagnetic of Engineering in 1981. He worked out his Doctoral
thesis on "Power losses in amorphous metal alloys" at Wolfson Centre
for Magnetics Technology (UCC) in 1985. From 1983 until 1985 he worked as
Research Engineer in the Industrial Centre of the University College of Cardiff
(CUIC)
Since 1986 he is Professor in the
Department of Energy Technology at T.E.I. of Athens. He has served as Head and
Assistant Head of the Department.
He has been lecturing, in many Western,
Eastern European and Asian countries, on subjects related to Energy Management
and Energy Efficient Technologies on seminars for Engineers from different
industrial sectors under the framework of various EU Programmes.
Prof. Rampias had worked for two years
as Çead of
Maintenance and Engineering Department of a large Deep Refrigeration Plant in
Athens. Since 1993 he is working as Senior Energy Expert in various European
and Greek Consulting Companies in a large number of EU Projects of Technical
Assistance on Energy Management, Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Energy
Policy.
Following his research work in the
Industrial Centre of the University College of Cardiff (CUIC), he continues his
research interest in innovative electric drive systems in cooperation with the
Research Team of the Department of Electric Equipment, Technologies and Mechanics
of the State Technical University of Tashkent (TSTU).
He is the author of several scientific
articles in international magazines on "Amorphous Metal Alloys & Power
Losses". As a result of joint research with TSTU, implemented during
2009-2010 he published a book on "Energy Saving Solid State Drives of
Asynchronous Motors for Technological Machines and Installations" (ISBN
978-960-93-3063-3, 60 pp., Athens, 2011). He has also presented articles on
subjects related to "High Efficiency Electric Motors",
"VSDs" and "High Efficiency Distribution Transformers" in
various workshops under Thermie Programme. His latest research activities
involve use of Energy Information in Industry and Energy Efficiency Indicators
in Policy Process.
