Aims and Scope
The scope of the course is the
comprehension of the meaning, the role and the operation of Electrical Distribution
Networks in the frame of the integrated Electrical Power Systems, as well as
the thorough investigation of the traditional and digital techniques used for
the analysis of Distribution Networks.
Course Description
Theory
DC and AC distribution lines
and networks. Comparison of conductor costs in AC and DC distribution networks.
Feeders and distributors for supply systems. Optimal feeding points position. Voltage
drop graphical construction. Computer aided electrical power distribution
network analysis. Insulation resistance of distribution networks. Methods for
the determination of leakage resistance and for faults location. Electrical and
mechanical characteristics of power distribution network materials.
Laboratory
The laboratory part of the course
consists of practical implementation of several electrical distribution networks
arrangements developed through appropriate models of lines, loads and supply
systems, aiming at the study of the whole distribution network and of each
separate component of it.
Expected Course
Outcome
By the end of the course the
students should:
- Recognize a distribution
network as a discrete part of an integrated Electrical Power System
- Understand in great
extent the theoretical background determining the structure and the operation
of electrical power distribution networks.
- Be able to implement the
above mentioned theoretical principles for the study and analysis of the
electrical power distribution networks.
