Analytical methods using energy theorems . Strain energy . Principle of stationary potential energy . Allowable deflection, allowable stress state . The principle of stationary potential energy as an equilibrium condition . The unit load method . Deformation of structural elements . The Castigliano's theorem, deflection and slope of beam's elastic line, statically indeterminate beams . Reciprocal theorems of Betti and Maxwell . Mohr's method . Continuous beam, the method of the three bending moments (Clapeyron) . Statically indeterminate members, compatibility equations, application on trusses, beams and frames. Specific topics: Support movements, elastic supports, thermal stresses, properties of symmetry . Double bending, nonsymmetrical bending, combination of loading cases, eccentric loading, combination of bending and shear, combination of axial loading and torsion, kernel of cross section .
