CSE642. Transport Systems Planning (ects: 5) The course has theoretical part only and contains the following topics: Introduction to transportation systems; Basic characteristics of transport and mobility, and their correlation; Basic notions of transportation (e.g. land use and traffic zones); Stages of transport systems planning and development; 4-step planning process (trip generation, trip distribution, modal split and traffic assignment); Demand-supply equilibration and network equilibrium; Transportation infrastructure supply analysis: cost models and economic planning; Traffic assignment and travel times calculation; Vehicle routing systems; and Shortest path problem (Dijkstra algorithm). The course also offers a short introduction to traffic engineering including the following topics: Basic traffic flow variables, Fundamental traffic flow equation and Signalization.
