Call for Expressions of Interest
“Human Brain Project” EU Flagship Programme,
“Coordination of Gender Equality Activities”
Objectives and description
The Human Brain Project of the EU Flagship Programme has published a call for expressions of interest (CEoI) for the “Coordination of Gender Equality Activities”.
The Human Brain Project
(HBP) is an ambitious 10 year research initiative, and part of the EU
flagship program. The HBP is developing an innovative ICT infrastructure
(the HBP Joint Platform), that will help neuroscientists and clinical
researchers integrate data and knowledge about the brain across all
levels of its spatial and temporal organisation. Using detailed digital
representations, reconstructions, and simulations it aims to give tools
to thousands of researchers to advance and accelerate our understanding
of the functioning of the human brain and its diseases.
Through this Call for Expressions of Interest (CEoI), HBP
is looking for a new Partner with coordination of gender equality
activities experience to join the project's next phase, which will be
funded under Horizon 2020 (H2020).
Working
towards gender equality is an essential part of European research and
innovation policy, which includes a strong commitment to the promotion
of equal opportunities and a balanced participation of women and men at
all levels in research teams and in management structures. In addition,
it reflects our dedication to increase the scientific quality and
societal relevance of produced knowledge, technologies and innovations
by integrating an in-depth understanding of both genders’ needs,
behaviours and attitudes.
The specific aim of the Gender Equality Activities Coordinator
will be to improve equal gender opportunities within HBP. This will be
achieved by integrating the gender dimension in HBP’s research content
and by explicitly taking care of the gender aspect in the HBP’s project
structure (in line with the HBP Flagship Objective to ensure that the
HBP’s work is undertaken responsibly and that it benefits society).
The selected proposal will be integrated within the HBP’s Subproject 11, with links to Subprojects 1 to 10, Subproject 12 and in particular, the HBP Directorate and HBP Education Programme in Subproject 11.
You can find the HBP Subprojects here: https://www.humanbrainproject.eu/en/collaborate/open-calls/subprojects-ceols/
Eligible activities
The
proposal selected by this Call should propose a plan to accomplish the
following activities for the Coordination of Gender Equality Activities
Task:
· Propose
a methodological approach and overall strategy for how the HBP can
further advance and systematically develop gender equality within the
project, while incorporating existing work and state-of-the art in
research on gender equality.
· Support
and animate the Gender Advisory Committee in SGA2. The Gender Advisory
Committee will serve to monitor the activities planned under the Gender
Task. The focus of the Advisory Committee will be on promoting gender
balance in leadership as well as in education and training activities.
· Develop
guidelines to ensure that gender is considered in every organised
event. Approaches should include female/male target ratios, efforts to
encourage female participation, the inclusion of a gender session (where
relevant), and invitations to female guest speakers (who work in the
field or who are committed to gender equality in their field).
· Develop
a stable network to share best practices and inspire positive change,
with the objective to sensitise and increase engagement by both men and
women in these activities.
· Encourage mentoring programmes and role models in HBP.
· Organise a Gender Conference, that will disseminate the achievements during SGA2.
The activities should be structured around the following three focal points:
· Education: fostering equality in scientific careers
· Work–life organisation: promoting working conditions and culture that allow equal career development for men and women
· Leadership culture: cultivate a gender balance in decision-making processes and bodies
The proposers have to allow for some flexibility in their work plan,
as it is expected, that the winning applicants will build on the gender
equality activities carried out during SGA1 and the Gender Action Plan,
that is currently under development.
Eligible participants - Minimum conditions
Single organisations, either already part of the HBP Consortium or not, are eligible for funding under this CEoI.
The
European Commission eligibility and financial rules apply. The new
Partner Organisations must therefore be established in the EU Member States or Horizon 2020 associated countries.
The
parent organisation of the applicant that puts forward the winning
proposal will become a full Partner in the HBP Consortium, subject to
the HBP Framework Partnership Agreement (FPA) and will be required to
sign the HBP Consortium Agreement. The addition of new Partners to
the Consortium is subject to the approval of the required FPA amendment
by the HBP Stakeholder Board and the EC.
Funding conditions and duration
The overall budget for this topic amounts to EUR 156,250. Only one proposal will be selected
The funding rate for this project is 100%.
The duration of the projects should not exceed 24 months (covering the period from 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2020)
Deadline of proposals' submission
The deadline for the submission of application is 30 September 2017 at 17:00 (GMT+1).
Proposal submission is done exclusively through the online application platform. You can find more information here: http://opencalls.humanbrainproject.eu/forms/12/overview .
