Horizon 2020 – Societal Challenges - “Greening the Economy in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS)” –

Objective and description

New topics have been opened for submission of proposals under the Horizon 2020 Programme within the pillar “Societal Challenges”, under the work programme “Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials”, within the call for proposals “Greening the Economy in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS)” – H2020-SC5-2018-2019-2020.

 

This call focuses on moving to a greener, more resource efficient and climate-resilient economy in sync with the natural environment, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

The call for proposals refers to the following topics:

 

• CE-SC5-01-2018: Methods to remove hazardous substances and contaminants from secondary raw materials (Research and Innovation action)
• CE-SC5-02-2018: Independent testing programme on premature obsolescence (Research and Innovation Action)
• CE-SC5-03-2018: Demonstrating systemic urban development for circular and regenerative cities (Innovation Action)
• CE-SC5-05-2018: Coordinated approaches to funding and promotion of research and innovation for the circular economy (Coordination and Support Action)
• CE-SC5-06-2018: New technologies for the enhanced recovery of by-products (Research and Innovation Action)
• CE-SC5-07-2018-2019-2020: Raw materials innovation for the circular economy: sustainable processing, reuse, recycling and recovery schemes (Innovation Action)
• CE-SC5-08-2018-2019-2020: Raw materials policy support actions for the circular economy (Coordination and Support Action)
• SC5-09-2018-2019: New solutions for the sustainable production of raw materials (Research and Innovation Action)
• SC5-11-2018: Digital solutions for water: linking the physical and digital world for water solutions (Innovation Action)
• SC5-12-2018: EU-India water co-operation (Research and Innovation Action)
• SC5-13-2018-2019: Strengthening international cooperation on sustainable urbanisation: nature-based solutions for restoration and rehabilitation of urban ecosystems (Research and innovation Action)
• SC5-15-2018: Strengthening the benefits for Europe of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) - establishing 'EuroGEOSS' (Innovation Action)
• SC5-17-2018: Towards operational forecasting of earthquakes and early warning capacity for more resilient societies (Research and Innovation Action)
• SC5-18-2018: Valuing nature: mainstreaming natural capital in policies and in business decision-making (Coordination and Support Action)
• SC5-19-2018: International network to promote cultural heritage innovation and diplomacy (Coordination and Support Action)

 

Eligible applicants

The topics CE-SC5-01-2018, CE-SC5-02-2018, CE-SC5-06-2018, SC5-09-2018-2019, SC5-12-2018, SC5-13-2018-2019, SC5-17-2018 refer to “Research and Innovation actions”. The topics CE-SC5-03-2018, CE-SC5-07-2018-2019-2020, SC5-11-2018, SC5-15-2018 refer to “Innovation actions”. For both “Research and Innovation actions” as well as “Innovation actions” the eligible partners are: At least three legal entities established in a different Member State or associated country. All three legal entities shall be independent of each other.

 

The topics CE-SC5-05-2018, CE-SC5-08-2018-2019-2020, SC5-18-2018, SC5-19-2018 refer to “Coordination and support actions”. For “Coordination and support actions”, the eligible partner could be at least one legal entity established in an EU Member State or Horizon 2020 associated country.

 

Budget

Funding rates:

RIA Research and Innovation actions: 100%.

IA Innovation actions: 70% (except for non-profit legal entities, where a rate of 100% applies).

CSA Coordination and support actions: 100%.

• CE-SC5-01-2018: Methods to remove hazardous substances and contaminants from secondary raw materials

Research and Innovation action: 34,000,000 EUR.

• CE-SC5-02-2018: Independent testing programme on premature obsolescence

Research and Innovation Action: 5,000,000 EUR.

• CE-SC5-03-2018: Demonstrating systemic urban development for circular and regenerative cities

Innovation Action: 39,000,000

• CE-SC5-05-2018: Coordinated approaches to funding and promotion of research and innovation for the circular economy

Coordination and Support Action: 2,000,000 EUR.

• CE-SC5-06-2018: New technologies for the enhanced recovery of by-products

Research and Innovation Action: 15,000,000 EUR.

• CE-SC5-07-2018-2019-2020: Raw materials innovation for the circular economy: sustainable processing, reuse, recycling and recovery schemes

Innovation Action: 20,000,000 EUR

• CE-SC5-08-2018-2019-2020: Raw materials policy support actions for the circular economy

Coordination and Support Action: 5,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-09-2018-2019: New solutions for the sustainable production of raw materials

Research and Innovation Action: 20,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-11-2018: Digital solutions for water: linking the physical and digital world for water solutions

Innovation Action: 14,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-12-2018: EU-India water co-operation

Research and Innovation Action: 15,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-13-2018-2019: Strengthening international cooperation on sustainable urbanisation: nature-based solutions for restoration and rehabilitation of urban ecosystems

Research and innovation Action: 10,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-15-2018: Strengthening the benefits for Europe of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) - establishing 'EuroGEOSS'

Innovation Action: 15,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-17-2018: Towards operational forecasting of earthquakes and early warning capacity for more resilient societies

Research and Innovation Action: 18,000,000 EUR.

• SC5-18-2018: Valuing nature: mainstreaming natural capital in policies and in business decision-making (CSA) and SC5-19-2018: International network to promote cultural heritage innovation and diplomacy (CSA): 7,700,000 EUR in total.

 

Deadline for proposals’ submission

The deadline for topics CE-SC5-05-2018, CE-SC5-08-2018-2019-2020, SC5-12-2018, SC5-18-2018, SC5-19-2018 is 27 February 2018, 17:00 (Brussels local time).

 

The topics CE-SC5-01-2018, CE-SC5-02-2018, CE-SC5-03-2018, CE-SC5-06-2018, CE-SC5-07-2018-2019-2020, SC5-09-2018-2019, SC5-11-2018, SC5-13-2018-2019, SC5-15-2018, SC5-17-2018, have two-stage deadline models. First deadline is 27 February 2018, 17:00 (Brussels local time). Second deadline for the proposals that passed the first-stage evaluation is 4 September 2018, 17:00 (Brussels local time).  

 

For two-stage submission schemes, you must submit a ‘short outline proposal’ for the first stage and you will be invited to submit your ‘full proposal’ for the second stage, if you pass the first-stage evaluation.
