Main task of the Department˘s graduate is to understand the properties of
objects of historical and artistic importance in order to prevent further
deterioration, to reinforce their own ability of making distinction between authentic
and fake artefacts, and to facilitate unhindered access of all users to
artefacts and monuments of cultural heritage.
The graduates of the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art
work in museums, public or private conservation offices, or independently, for
the preservation of cultural heritage.
More specifically, their duties include:
- Technical examination, conservation and
restoration of archaeological findings and works of art.
- Preparation of conservation and restoration
studies for archaeological findings and works of art.

and operation of conservation laboratories.
- Development of new technologies in conservation,
in collaboration with other disciplines and institutions.
- Undertaking and participation in research projects
in their field of expertise, either independently or as members of
research teams.
Conservators are fully responsible for every intervention they undertake on
objects of their field of expertise, but they do not create new
cultural or artistic objects.
