COURSE TITLE: Computer - Aided Design Methodology
COURSE ID: Í1-2020
COURSE TYPE: Composite
COURSE CATEGORY: Mandatory
HOURS PER WEEK: 2 Theory + 2 Workshop
ECTS: 4
TYPICAL SEMESTER: 2nd

AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
The aims and objectives of the course are developed through three stratified thematic areas according to the level of the learners, and developments in both software and hardware.
A thematic area
Computational modeling practices.
Technologies on computational modeling and digital media.
B thematic area
Parametric design and virtual reality.
Reverse modeling and design.
C thematic area
Development of computational mechanisms for modeling creative processes through generative techniques.
Development of interactive components for controlling and guidance the selection of desirable design solutions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The theoretical and workshop framework of the course is organized according to the stratification of the three thematic areas.
Theory
A thematic area
Principles and processes of digital modeling and representational methods, in the disciplines of design. The impact of digital technology made relative to the conceptual categories of design methodologies.
B thematic area
Theory, technologies and methods of parametric - based and feature - based design. Analysis of design process based on rules, constraints and relationships. Methods for the generation and editing of design alternatives.
C thematic area
Theory of generative design approaches. Structures and procedures of computational design. Design knowledge and intentions modeling during the design processes. Principles and methods of computational aesthetics.

Laboratory
A thematic area
Introduction to digital geometric modeling and representation. Introduction to architectural and product design software as an aid during the conceptual phase of design.
B thematic area
Feature - based modeling and Parametric - based design. Introduction of computational mechanisms - based digital representations. Procedures of defining design rules, constraints and relations. Methods of production and editing of design alternatives.
C thematic area
Computational mechanisms that automatically generates digital design representations. Criteria - based computational modeling for architectural and product design.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
Ability to apply the acquired knowledge in architectural and object design.
