AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
The objective of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and methods required in order to approach complex problems of organization, marketing, ergonomics, psychology and sociology of space, functionality and aesthetics of public spaces.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Through a theoretical as well practical approach, design parameters are identified and investigated, such as morphological and structural characteristics of the existing space, the relationship between the natural and the built environment, the use and the functions of space, the needs of the users and their relationship to public space. This leads to a design proposal, applied to spaces of hospitality, such as hotels and hotel facilities, convention and exhibition centers, sport and well-being multiple use centers and other special buildings. Lectures related to the above issues support the educational process. Students have also to work on a theoretical subject, following instructions by their tutors.
The exercise is related to the collection and recording of information which leads to the formulation of a statement - idea based on the analysis of the collected data. The students propose, develop and present their work in a clear, concise and comprehensible way. This process is divided into three stages:
• Research: collection and analysis of data such as: morphological and structural characteristics of the existing space, the site of the building in relation to the natural and constructed environment, specification of the various functions of the building, identification of the users, bibliographic research and investigation for respective spaces, presentation of examples of similar spaces.
• Design Concept: it deals with the principles of the design of the particular space. Students have to elaborate new ideas regarding interior design, and provide solutions to problems that have been identified in the analytic stage of their research.
• Presentation of the final proposal: it must be done in a way that the intention of the designer is fully understood.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
The ability to analyze and evaluate the needs of the users and respond to them according to aesthetic choices.
