AIM AND OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE
This subject aims to the understanding of the principles of the architecture and the art of the 19th and the 20th c. as well as of the contemporary era within their social and political framework and in relation to the art and architecture of the other periods of Western history.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
The "History of Architecture" examines the following subjects:
Neoclassicism, utopian design, Art Nouveau. The Modern Movement architecture: Expressionism, New Objectivity, Futurism, De Stijl, Bauhaus, Constructivism. Examination of the architectural works of Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Alvar Aalto and others.
Postmodern architecture. Emphasis on contemporary developments in architecture: Deconstruction in architecture and Folding architecture.
The "History of Art" examines the following subjects:
Neoclassicism-Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau, The School of Munich.
Expressionism, Cubism, Abstract Art, Futurism, Dadaism, Surrealism. The first Greek Modernists and the claim for Greek identity in art.
Abstract Expressionism, Pop and Op Art, Underground Art, the Postmodern movement.

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES
This subject supplies students with the ability to interpret the forms of art and architecture and to investigate their role within the social and cultural becoming of each era.
